Synthesis of Optimized Adaptive Digital Filters for System Identification and Vibration Control

This paper describes adaptive d igital filter systems which can be used for adaptive modelling and for active vibration control of flexible structures. Their components, the digital filters and the adaptation algorithms, are proposed. This paper will show how extremely useful it is to take a priori knowledge into consideration when choosing a filter type. A special adaptive lattice type filter, here called MX, is proposed. It is an optimized filter with respect to the structure to be controlled or identified, but also to the adaptation algorithm, which is derived here as well. The performance of this filter and its properties arc analytically discussed , experimentally studied, and compared with other recently used filter types.
