Active Structures are considered. which consist of a mechanical system with feedback controller aiming at keeping some dynamic structural properties, such as the damping rate of large appendages. within a specified range. A crucial task after the integrated structure I control design is the computational verification of the active structural dynamic performances predicted. The paper introduces the thecry of performance verification by simulations in the time domain. Suitable direct integration schemes are discussed taking into account the sparsity of the system matrices. The generation of equivalent load - time functions for the external disturbances is adressed which are defined by a random process like white noise. Reduced order models are discussed which are based on Krylov - spaces and may be employed in the stability analysis of the closed loop system. A 20 meter extendable and retractable mast fitted with piezo - electric local actuators illustrates the methods.
