Different LDA seeding techniques are used to separate rotational and entrainment fluid information of a circular free jet. This results in mean velocity and turbulent intensity data, of which the profiles need new aspects of Interpretation. Using the model of a helical vortex structure existing in the rotational flow, the characteristics of measured profiles seem to be explainable This leads to the conclusion that for the discussed case the entrainment process is governed by the large-scale structure of the turbulent flow field and that the influence of gradient diffusion is subordinated to the large-scale effects.
